About Us
The Donegal Bay Waterbus is an 80 foot long, 130 metric tonne steel boat. Built in Donegal's local fishing port in Killybegs, it has toured around Donegal Bay since July 2006 and operates all year round carrying approx. 35,000 passengers annually. The Boat itself is powered by two caterpillar 225hp waterjet engines, which smoothly propels the Waterbus around our local bay. This purpose built, luxury passenger boat is capable of taking 160 passengers comfortably, with the option of being seating inside on the lower deck, or above for an open deck viewing experience (the best place to reel in the sights). Cap your trip off with a selection of fine wines, spirits and beers available from our fully stocked bar facility. The boat is wheelchair accessible and is fully equipped with state of the art navigational and safety systems, restrooms. The trip itself is smooth, with most of our passengers commenting on the fact that they wouldn't even think they are on a boat at all. Moored at Donegal Town’s pier, the brainchild of Donegal Town Enterprise Ltd, administrated and operated by six working directors, as a matter of pride, is a non-profit making organisation, as all profits are ploughed back into the community, either through infra-structural works or indeed to charitable causes. The fully trained crew went through a series of rigourous Dept of Marine programmes lasting several months, from Life Saving, CPR, Fire Safety, Radio and Sea Navigational Skills. The tour lasts about 80 minutes and passes many local points of interest, including the Old Abbey and Seal Island (where a colony of about 200 seals live).
